sound artist: Brian Eno
Brian Eno is a musician, composer, record producer, music theorist and singer and is known for his work with many famous rock musicians such as David Bowie and Coldplay. Due to his contribution to ambient music he considered the father of ambient music.
I discovered Brian Eno after finding out that he is influenced by Syd Barrett. Just as Syd Barrett explored echoes through his music Brian Eno also experimented with atmospheric sounds, and like Barrett’s music would invite the listener to sit and listen rather than dance along. Brian studied art at St. Joseph college where he developed an interest of minimalism (a from of art that involves art work that is striped down to its primitive form). After college Brian joined the glam rock band Roxy music but left after getting bored of the rock star life. Brian then went on to form his own label called obscure label which featured the work of john Adams and john cage. Eno has even collaborated with many artist such as David bowie on his album Berlin trilogy album as well as velvet undergrounds john Cale and Lou reed. It was during this period that brian developed an interest in alternative guitar tunings and altering quality of notes from musical instruments. His interest then led him to discover sonic youth a band who was doing just that.

Although, are you stretching the idea of sound artist here a bit? I definitely understand how we could call Eno a sound artist, but is he not more recognized as a musician? oh, I know, these troubling categories.
ok. so here’s a thing.
you mentioned Sonic Youth which is absolutely wonderful because they’re very very very cool. When they played T.O. a number of year ago, the openign act was C.C.M.C., a Toronto group. And they said, at that concert that if it wasn’t for C.C.M.C, there would be no Sonic Youth. You should investigate them.
i respect your opinon and can see how Brian eno would be a stretch but to be honest i really don’t understand what a sound artist is couldn’t think of any sound artist besides syd barrett and jimi hendrix( that is to say if they are sound artist), but i found out that brian eno was influenced by syd barrett. If eno was influenced by a sound artist whose to say he isn’t a sound artist. If heavy metal bands were influenced by led zeppelin whoses to say that led zeppelin isn’t heavy metal even if they formed before the term heavy metal was used.
